Each year, a team of adults and teens travel to Mexico in June to build homes there at no cost to those in need. PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE DISPOSAL PROGRAM
Saving unused or expired medication is a bad idea, which can lead to improper and illegal use. Abuse of prescription drugs has become increasingly common among teens and adults alike. When you have finished your course of treatment or stopped using the drug, you should properly dispose of the medication. If you have decided to clean out your collection of unused medication, how do you get rid of the medicine responsibly? You do not want to contaminate the water supply or the landfill, nor do you want medication to fall into the wrong hands. Don’t flush – experts say this method of disposal, while common, may have potential harmful effects on the environment. In addition, septic systems and modern water treatment plants are not fully designed to deal with medication disposal. Don’t throw it into the trash – Many safety experts strongly discourage throwing medications into the trash, where children or pets could find them. Plus, your trash will mostly likely end up in a landfill, where the medications could potentially contaminate the environment. There is no clear consensus on how to properly dispose of medication, as opinions from experts and officials differ greatly. So, what’s the solution?
