Shoreline High School "Class of 1965"
35th Reunion in the YEAR 2000!

Committee Meeting #4- May 10, 2000
The Edgewater Hotel
Location:
Tour of the "Olympic Room" on the 4th floor. Large panoramic room with bar and a beautiful view, additional foyer and another room for food that opens on to a patio. Will be a great location for our party.

A block of rooms has been reserved: on hold are 5 rooms for Friday night and 20 for Saturday. Rates are $225 (Premium view), $189 (Water Lodge), $171 (City) and $144 for (City Lodge). Joyce will check and see if these prices are a special group rate. We may want to increase our block. Rooms will be held until August 16th, one month from the event.

We need to spend $7,000, which includes food and bar drinks. We will have an additional 27% and 8% added. Tom, Joyce, Jody and David will meet with the hotel to work out the contract, because The Edgewater wants all the money up front, and we will not do this.

Food will most likely be cheese and light food out early in the evening, followed by a nice meal or buffet.

Postcard:
365 postcards were sent out with return address. Terry passed around the 54 returned cards for committee help with missing graduates. Please send corrections to him @ 425-337-7900 or
tngemmill@aol.com. We currently have 311 names with good addresses.

Finance Report:
Tom Breiwick took the $800 from the 1995 bank balance and bought Starbucks stock. Today it has split to 80 shares worth $2560. We have used this money towards the $1,000 we have paid for the Edgewater deposit and an additional $2700 has been paid by Tom. The committee projected expenses to be about $9000.

Music:
We discussed having Jeff Afdem's band play at the party. It was moved and seconded to have his group play. Expected cost about $300.

Database:
Can we have a form for people to fill out and put some information into a data base rather than doing a reunion book???? Could we let people access it off our web page? Bob Aiken will check with Robin Bookey.

Invite will be mailed out July 1st

Decorations - Wendy Bark will coordinate

Recorder: Linda Breiwick

Committee Meeting #3- October 24, 1999
Embassy Suites, Eastgate
Location:
Joyce and Paulette organized a great turnout of approximately 18 people for dinner. A discussion took place of the possible sites: A decision will be made before the evening is over.
  • The Edgewater Inn $7,000 minimum
  • Embassy Suites, Eastgate $5,000
  • Fairview Club $8,000
  • Newcastle $12,000
  • Nile Country Club $500 + food at approx 3,500-4,000
Comparisons were made, and a vote took place between The Nile CC and The Edgewater. In light of the fact that the Nile would need a lot of decorating and didn't have much to offer, the majority vote was in favor of The Edgewater. We will get a block of rooms, and the site is classy and will be easy to decorate. A deposit will be made within the week. (During our dinner and lengthy service, The Embassy Suites was ruled out for the function).

Postcard:
A postcard will be sent out the end of March 2000 with the date and location. Please look at your list, and send or call all corrections and updates to: Terry Gemmill @ 425-337-7900 or
tngemmill@aol.com.

September 16, 2000 has been reserved at the Edgewater Hotel in downtown Seattle

Other classmates are welcome, but we will NOT do a separate mailing to other classes. We will also host an auction to benefit the Shoreline Food Bank. There will be a Scholarship fund mentioned on the invitation.

Timeline:

  • March Postcard mailing to save the date
  • April Food decisions
  • July Invitation mailed
  • August Decorations decided
  • September Reunion
Recorder: Linda Breiwick

Committee Meeting #2- May 1998
Jim Tarrant’s, Sun Cove, Wenatchee

A small gathering of SHS grads met in May at Jim Tarrant’s at Sun Cove - the Rolfe’s, Bill Wakefield, the Gemmills, Dan Sweeny, Jody Sherin, Kathleen King, Woody Derry, Jim Tarrant, Bob Palen, Tom Breiwick and Linda Brinkley. (Click here to view photos.)

We discussed two different scenarios for the reunion– 1) A nice party of 75 – 150 people or 2) A large gathering of 4-6 classes from the graduating classes of the 60’s. A discussion took place of how we would find key people from participating classes, and how would we coordinate a large event like this. Jodi will contact Jan Robertson and see if she has a list of key contacts from the classes of ’63 - ’67.

Dan will check with Parker’s and see what arrangements might be made with them to help host an event. Could we possibly host a private party with Shorecrest ’65 with say "no-host food and drinks"? Would Parker’s provide a band?

A TIME LINE was developed and will be the committee’s driving force:

Fall 2000 - the event
July 2000 - reminder mailing
May 2000 - invitation
Fall 1999 - "Hello - Locator" mailing
Fall 1998 - Site selection ideas narrowed down and reserve a tentative date

Thursday, October 8th, 7:00 pm
No-host Dinner at Anthony’s Home Port, Edmonds

Committee Kick-Off Meeting - January 24, 1998
Potluck dinner at Malena Keeling Pierce's home: Kathleen King presiding.

Treasurer Report: David Rolfe closed the checking account after the last 1995 bills were paid. The 30th party had approximately 145 in attendance and brought in approx. $5000. The $800 remaining was invested in Starbuck's stock and is now worth approx. $1300. Tom Breiwick will be the Treasurer for the 35th and the account will be set up on Quick Books.

Auction: The auction at the 30th was a success and proceeds ($500) went to the Shoreline Food Bank. We will have another auction at the 35th. Chairs will be David Rolfe and Bill Wakefield.

Dates for the 35th: Discussion on the best dates, with August for September 2000 being the choice. The idea of combining with Shorecrest '65 or other SHS classes (Shoreline "60's" Reunion) was discussed. No decision at this time.

Advertisement & General Information: Mike and Robin Bookey will be in charge of a Web page. They will check with the Shoreline District office for possible space on their Web site. Topics for our Web page include place for name and address changes (particularly of people we have lost track of), date and location of our Reunion event(s), and Jody and Wendy's phone numbers/ or e-mail addresses.

Current Mailing List: Terry Gemmill will again help us keep the database list updated. We will use Jody and Carol as contacts for people to send written address/name changes to.

Location: Suggestions included red Hook Brewery (Woodinville), St. Michelle or Columbia winery (Woodinville), Windham Garden Hotel (Canyon Park), Cavanaugh's (Downtown Seattle), Nile Country Club (Lake Ballinger), and any hotel where people could stay over. Joyce Ismon and Paulette Miller will investigate some prices and possible locations before the next meeting.

Music: Discussion about whether we want soft mood music, CD's or a band. Regardless of our final choice, it was decided we wanted a quiet room where those who wanted to talk could do so. Dan Sweeny will investigate the cost of "Jr. Cadillac" and be in charge of music.

Photography: Jeanne wants to be the photographer and roam around taking candid shots. Do we want a "Memory Book" album with laser copied photos??? Do we want a Reunion Souvenir?

Costs: We will make every effort to keep costs reasonable. We will have scholarships available. There will most likely be a pre-function the night before.

Time line: May or June-a gathering in Chelan area???? July, August or Sept. a barbecue at Jeanne Anderson Milanovich's.
